Raymetrics designs and manufactures laser-based remote sensing instruments (aerosol lidars) for atmospheric analysis. Through a growing network of partnerships, Raymetrics has sold products globally, including in the USA, India, South America, Europe, Southeast Asia, and China. Clients have historically been research institutes interested in studying everything from clouds to aerosols to dust. Clients have increasingly come from operational and commercial sectors as lidar becomes better known as a solution beyond scientific research. New commercial and operational applications are arising for the technology, such as volcanic ash detection (for aviation authorities and meteorological agencies), remote visibility measurement (for airports and others), and remote pollution monitoring (mines, heavy industry, environmental agencies). Raymetrics has sold operational systems to clients including the Met Office (UK), Deutsche Wetterdienst (DWD—German Weather Service), the National Environment Agency (Singapore), Baku International Airport (Azerbaijan), and many others. Raymetrics finds itself at the forefront of this new wave of technology, with a significant competitive advantage over the competition due to having spent the last decades developing the technology for a niche market.
