Boosting Performance for Space-Grade Digital Systems

Details

TRIMSIGNAL is a Greek semiconductor and embedded-systems company, incubated at ESA BIC Greece, specialising in hardware-accelerated deterministic signal processing on FPGA/SoC platforms for space and space-related instrumentation. The company designs and delivers complete electronic subsystems where precision timing is the decisive resource: real-time receivers for coherent wind LiDAR supporting calibration and validation of spaceborne atmospheric sensors, payload electronics and ground digital receivers for optical and quantum communication links, and data acquisition and processing chains built to CCSDS and ECSS practice. Its current LiDAR receiver subsystem, developed under the ESA BIC programme, has reached TRL 7 as an operational prototype: sixteen parallel processing pipelines, end-to-end latency below 50 microseconds, inter-pipeline synchronization below 10 ps RMS, within a 10 to 13 W power envelope. The company's second technology pillar is Dynamic Frequency Boosting (US Patent 10,740,519 B2), a cycle-level clock adaptation technique that raises computational throughput and energy efficiency in digital ICs and FPGAs by adjusting the clock frequency to the paths actually active at execution time, recovering the worst-case timing margins that conventional synchronous design pays on every cycle. Applied to radiation-tolerant devices, whose silicon trails commercial nodes, DFB translates directly into performance per watt, the scarcest resource of small satellite payloads.

Strategic Focus

Strategic Priorities: Flight heritage through in-orbit demonstration of the company's FPGA payload electronics on CubeSat-class missions. Supplier positioning in European optical and quantum communications: payload controllers, precision timing and OGS digital receivers to CCSDS standards. Commercial Cal/Val services for spaceborne atmospheric sensors, built on the TRL-7 LiDAR receiver line. Space-grade maturation and licensing of the patented Dynamic Frequency Boosting technology (US 10,740,519 B2) for performance per watt on radiation-tolerant FPGAs. Edge AI/ML inference on deterministic accelerator fabric within small-satellite power budgets.

Looking for Partnerships: Satellite platform providers and mission integrators, for the design-in of TRIMSIGNAL payload electronics and timing subsystems into CubeSat and smallsat missions. Optical and quantum communication actors, including optical terminal manufacturers, optical ground station operators and quantum photonics teams, for end-to-end link development to CCSDS standards. Semiconductor industry partners, for co-development and licensing of Dynamic Frequency Boosting on radiation-tolerant and space-grade devices. Environmental monitoring organizations and instrument primes, for LiDAR-based calibration and validation of spaceborne atmospheric sensors. R&D institutions and AI companies, for edge inference on deterministic FPGA accelerators and for advancing signal processing and calibration methods.
