The Microprocessors and Digital Systems Laboratory (MicroLab) specialises in the design and implementation of digital and microprocessor systems (ASIC, FPGA, and system level). It is an official laboratory of the School of Electrical & Computer Engineering of the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA). MicroLab has extensive background and experience in the fields of hardware/software codesign, DSP systems implementation, high-level synthesis, reconfigurable computing, and computer arithmetic. The laboratory is active in the domains of Embedded Systems Design, Microelectronics—Reliability, Rusted computing—Secure computing, Space, Multimedia, and Biomedical applications.

Projects & Missions: SPARTAN/SEXTANT/COMPASS (ESA): Design and develop embedded systems for autonomous rover navigation. Based on single- and multi-FPGA platforms. Acceleration of Computer Vision algorithms. 2011-2016. HIPNOS (ESA): Design and develop high-performance avionics for space-craft proximity operations. Based on COTS SoC-FPGA platforms. Acceleration of Computer Vision algorithms. 2016-2017. QUEENS-FPGA (ESA): Test and verify the new European FPGA of NanoXplore (NG-MEDIUM and NG-LARGE). Methodology for exhaustive testing/benchmarking of SW tools. Development of HW/SW co-processing demos on the actual FPGA board. 2017-2018. Radiation Testing of COTS (ESA, minor): Evaluate reliability of COTS FPGAs under heavy ion irradiation (in CERN facilities) and total dose effects in beta sources. 2018. FABSPACE 2.0 (H2020): Leverage space data usage in downstream ap-plications. 2016-2018.
