Strategic Focus
Strategic Priorities: Our strategic priority is to strengthen Planetek Hellas’ role as a trusted and innovative contributor to the Greek and European space ecosystem. As part of the D-Orbit Group, we are expanding our capabilities across the entire space value chain—from advanced Earth Observation and secure satellite communications to onboard AI, mission control and emerging in-orbit services. With hands-on experience across both space and ground systems, we understand the unique potential of space as a global, enabling, resilient and inherently dual-use domain. We apply this expertise to Defence and Security, developing practical end-to-end solutions that combine satellite data, geospatial intelligence, autonomous processing and mission operations. Our solutions and services are always designed to render operational added value where it matters most: to the users in the field. Our participation in the first wave of Europe’s In-Space Operations and Services (ISOS) initiatives is creating new opportunities in satellite servicing, space logistics and autonomous operations. Building on our strong R&D foundation, we aim to transform advanced technologies into reliable and scalable operational capabilities, contribute to Europe’s technological sovereignty and resilience, and expand our role in major national, ESA and EU programmes. At the same time, we remain committed to sustainable growth, the development of highly skilled talent in Greece and the creation of strong partnerships across the European space and defence ecosystem.
Looking for Partnerships: Entities operating in the fields of EO Applications, Algorithmic Design & Development (Big Data & AI), Satellite bus and Payload development, Astronomy, Space Microelectronics, FPGA, IP Cores, Ground Segment.

OP3C – On-board Processing for Compression and Cloud Classification
OP3C is an FPGA- or software-based solution for high-performance onboard compression and cloud classification of hyperspectral imagery. Its patented HUNPCA methodology combines spectral unmixing, Principal Component Analysis and coding techniques, optimised to operate within spacecraft processing, power, storage and downlink constraints. OP3C achieves high compression performance with minimal information loss, supports configurable near-lossless and lossy modes, performs hyperspectral image denoising, and dynamically adapts processing according to sensor characteristics and cloud coverage. It can compress cloudy data more aggressively, mask clouds onboard or discard unusable datasets, improving the overall efficiency of satellite imaging operations. The technology also enables further processing and classification directly in the compressed domain. OP3C has achieved flight heritage through its deployment onboard the OPTISAT mission. OPTISAT – Secure Optical Communications and On-board Earth Observation Processing Mission
OPTISAT is a 6U CubeSat mission designed, developed and operated by Planetek Hellas under the Greek National Microsatellite Programme. The mission demonstrates secure, high-speed optical satellite communications combined with on-board Earth Observation data processing. OPTISAT carries TESAT’s compact SCOT20 laser communication terminal, targeting space-to-ground data rates of up to 1 Gbps while providing enhanced resilience against interference and interception. Its on-board processing capabilities enable Earth Observation data to be analysed directly in orbit, reducing downlink requirements and accelerating the delivery of actionable information. The mission also provides a platform for demonstrating cybersecurity, blockchain and AI-based technologies developed with Greek and European partners. OPTISAT was successfully launched aboard SpaceX’s Transporter-16 mission from Vandenberg Space Force Base on 30 March 2026, strengthening Greece’s capabilities in secure communications, satellite operations and end-to-end space systems.
