Strategic Focus

Strategic Priorities: QRBIT’s strategic priorities focus on advancing its existing photonic and software solutions to meet the requirements of next-generation optical and quantum satellite communications. The company aims to develop and deploy high-performance optical and quantum communication systems, including photonic subsystems, optical ground-segment technologies and software for link scheduling, optimisation and atmospheric-channel prediction. A key priority is to strengthen Greece’s position in the global ecosystem of free-space and satellite-based quantum communications, while supporting the European space supply chain with cutting-edge, secure and scalable technologies. QRBIT also seeks to contribute to future European optical and quantum communication infrastructures through collaborative R&D, technology maturation and integration into operational satellite and ground networks.

Looking for Partnerships: QRBIT is interested in partnerships with space agencies, primes, research organisations, universities, technology providers and SMEs active in optical and quantum communications. The company particularly seeks collaboration with entities interested in ESA tenders, the deployment of free-space laser communication and Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) infrastructure, and participation in EU-funded programmes that advance the development, validation and integration of secure optical and quantum communication technologies. Additional areas of interest include optical ground stations, atmospheric-channel modelling, photonic subsystems, satellite-to-ground links, network scheduling and optimisation, and joint demonstration projects supporting future European and international optical and quantum communication networks.

Background

Established: 2025-06-26

Key Customers: QRBIT’s customer and stakeholder base spans space agencies, meteorological organisations, research institutes, environmental authorities and industrial users. Key organisations associated with the company’s technology and market activities include the European Space Agency (ESA), the German Aerospace Center (DLR), Deutscher Wetterdienst (DWD – German Weather Service), INOE 2000 – National Institute for Research and Development in Optoelectronics, CNR-IMAA – Institute of Methodologies for Environmental Analysis, Ternium Steel, the China Meteorological Administration (CMA), and Singapore’s National Environment Agency (NEA). These organisations represent relevant user groups for optical and quantum communications, atmospheric-channel characterisation, photonic instrumentation and advanced free-space optical systems. QRBIT also collaborates with institutional and research partners in experimental satellite optical communication activities, including ESA and JAXA.

Affiliations/Memberships: QRBIT is an ESA BIC Greece incubatee, benefiting from access to ESA’s technical and business-support network and the wider European space innovation ecosystem. The company is also affiliated with the Hellenic Space Technologies and Applications Cluster (si-Cluster) and the Hellenic Association of Space Industries (HASI), strengthening its links with Greek space-industry stakeholders, research organisations and institutional partners. QRBIT also maintains strong academic and research links through the Photonics Communications Research Laboratory of the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA), where its laboratory facilities are located. In addition, the company collaborates with European and international organisations in optical and quantum communications, including participation in experimental activities with ESA, JAXA, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and the National Observatory of Athens.
