The Marine Remote Sensing Group (MRSG) at the University of the Aegean conducts research for the exploration, analysis, and visualisation of satellite and UAV data in the coastal environment. It combines state-of-the-art algorithms and in situ measurements to develop methods, technologies, and products for the visual representation of marine geospatial information. The group has expertise in disciplines of marine remote sensing, including oil spill detection, oceanic phenomena identification, seagrass mapping, coastal bathymetry, and coastline detection.

The Mobile Radio Communications Laboratory (MRCL) is affiliated with the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) of the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) and with the Institute of Communication and Computer Systems (ICCS). MRCL was established in 1989, and since 1999 (Law 307, Hellenic Gazette 31/12/1999), it has acted as an official research unit providing services both for academia and the industry. MRCL has also been accredited since 2009 by the Hellenic Accreditation System, according to the ISO/IEC 17025:2005 standard (Certificate no. 520) for electromagnetic field measurements from 75 MHz to 18 GHz. MRCL has also been affiliated with the Biomedical Simulations and Imaging Laboratory (BIOSIM) since 2015, extending its research in health information and communication systems.

NanoQ covers all the processes needed for the development of novel nanomaterials with high reliability standards. Its vision is to become the nanomaterials interface that the academia and the industry needs. The company designs development processes for specialised nanomaterials to be used in environmental, biomedical, engineering, pharmaceutical, and space applications. It supports the upscaling of processes to high TRLs and MRLs, submission of scientific and technical proposals, coordination of research actions, and industrial production operations. NanoQ has access to cutting-edge instrumentation in advanced facilities in Greece and abroad to provide its customers services with high reliability standards. Its core business focuses on Nanomaterials Chemistry & Technology, Polymer Nanocomposites Chemistry & Technology, Process design, Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) Analysis, and Techno-Economic Analysis.

Founded in July 1961 as a Research Centre for Nuclear Research, Demokritos is today the largest multidisciplinary Research Centre of Greece with approximately 180 Researchers in tenured and tenure-track positions and over 500 Research Personnel working in projects funded mainly by grants from State Funds, the European Union and Private Industries. The Centre consists of six independent Institutes focusing on different scientific fields. It is governed by the Board of Directors and is supervised by the General Secretariat of Research and Innovation, which is in the Ministry of Development.

The company leverages A.I. and EO data to offer services in sustainable land-use planning, climate and weather forecasting, land suitability evaluation, and agent-based simulations. These technol-ogies support various industries, enabling clients to make informed, data-driven decisions that align with their sustainability objectives. Neuralio A.I.’s technology suite aids multiple sectors by facilitating data-driven decision-making processes that adhere to sustainability goals.

NEUROPUBLIC specialises in the development of innovative, high-performance integrated information systems, building on IoT, EO, Big Data, and ML technologies, focused especially on Smart Farming, Com-mon Agricultural Policy (CAP) implementation, and spatial analytics. NEUROPUBLIC is at the forefront of development regarding the new generation of IACS and agricultural monitoring using remote sensing, as specified in the Future CAP regulations proposed by the EC. NEUROPUBLIC developed the first and only large-scale IoT infrastructure in Greece, consisting of thousands of sensors installed in agricultural parcels, designed and developed in-house, collecting environmental and soil measurements from the field. Its Gaiasense Smart Farming integrated system uses these data as input and combines them with a variety of EO data, farm data, farm logs, etc., to produce next-generation Smart Farming advice on fertilisation, irri-gation, and pest management. Currently, Gaiasense is offering services for more than 25 different crops to more than 18,000 farmers in Greece, Cyprus, Poland, Portugal, and Spain.

The National Observatory of Athens (NOA) is the oldest research centre in modern Greece and a key scientific institution for astronomy, astrophysics, space applications, Earth Observation and remote sensing. Through its Institute for Astronomy, Astrophysics, Space Applications and Remote Sensing, NOA develops research, infrastructure and services that connect space science with practical applications in environmental monitoring, climate, geohazards, space weather and satellite data exploitation. With strong participation in European and international programmes, advanced observational facilities, and a long-standing role in scientific monitoring and public outreach, NOA is an important contributor to the Greek space ecosystem and to the use of space-based knowledge for science, policy and society.

OHB Hellas mon. EPE, a subsidiary of the German multinational technology group OHB SE, has been operating in Greece since July 2018. OHB Hellas is owned 100% by OHB SE. The establishment of this company follows the signed MoU in December 2017 with the Greek State. OHB has responded to the interest of the Greek State to have an experienced and recognised system integrator based in Greece. The objectives and vision of the company are a) to support the Greek space ecosystem with the expertise and strategic advice from a system integrator perspective, b) to design and integrate satellite systems and subsystems in Greece, c) to become a European centre of expertise in high performance data processing subsystems for satellites.

OMIKRON S.A. is specialised in carrying out studies and providing services related to the protection, management, and promotion of the natural and human environment through integrated approaches and state-of-the-art technological applications. The company was founded by a group of highly experienced professionals with expertise in various sectors such as environment, technical structures, project administration-management, regional development, mapping, databases, GIS, remote sensing, and natural disaster management. Its extensive experience in EO projects was followed by its comprehensive knowledge to process, manipulate, and extract valuable insights from diverse datasets.

Open Cosmos Aegean is a subsidiary of Open Cosmos Ltd. Open Cosmos Ltd. specializes in providing comprehensive space mission services, focusing on the design, construction, launch, and operation of small satellites. Their offerings are structured into three main areas: Open Orbit (tailored end-to-end satellite mission services, encompassing satellite assembly, integration, testing, launch, in-orbit operations, and data delivery), OpenConstellation (shared satellite infrastructure that enables clients to access diverse and frequent EO data, facilitating insights into global challenges such as climate change and resource management), and DataCosmos (cloud-based platform providing users with access to high-resolution satellite imagery and advanced visualization tools, aiding in informed decision-making across various sectors). By integrating these services, Open Cosmos aims to simplify access to space and deliver valuable satellite data to address pressing global issues.

OQ Technology Group (OQTEC) is a new-space start-up with the mission of providing global coverage for IoT and M2M connectivity using 4G/5G standards. OQTEC is headquartered in Luxembourg and has branches in Greece, UAE, Saudi Arabia, Rwanda, and the USA. OQTEC has a diverse team comprising expertise from both the space and telecommunications worlds. OQTEC has been successful in launching multiple missions (8 satellites successfully launched and operational in orbit), proving its experience in satellite channel processing, communication IoT protocol design, and modelling for satellite payloads, using terrestrial telecommunication standard NB-IoT, mission management, platform procurement, satellite AIT, and launch aspects. OQTEC launched its own satellite demonstrator mission, MACSAT, on 2023, funded by LSA and technically managed by ESA. The satellite, currently in the LEOP, shall demonstrate NB-IoT communication via satellites. Throughout this project, OQTEC has built the necessary experience for adapting, developing, and testing standard terrestrial protocol stacks for satellite communications. This experience has also allowed OQTEC to be a registered member of ETSI and 3GPP and to have an active participation in contributing towards the standardisation of 4G/5G communications over NTNs. The company team includes 30 team members globally.

Pleione Energy develops, designs, and produces cost-effective products and applications for the energy and space sector. The primary application field is the design and development of advanced storage systems through application of nanotechnology in batteries, capacitors, fuel cells, etc. Advanced materials and nanotechnology expertise, along with extensive research experience in the energy and aerospace sector, empowers the team behind the company to achieve technological breakthroughs. The company is an International Joint Venture between the Greek company ADAMANT COMPOSITES and the German company OMNIDEA-RTG and is based at the Technology incubator of the National Centre for Scientific Research (NCSR) “Demokritos” in Athens, Greece. Pleione Energy has developed two innovative nano-enabled based energy storage systems: a) Graphene based lithium battery and supercapacitors cells; b) Graphene-Based Materials with Improved Gas Barrier Properties for Space Applications. Pleione Energy is also developing a new product for Green Building applications, prefabricated walls with integrated energy storage capabilities.

The Photonic Networks and Technology Laboratory aims at the development of all the critical technology for delivering advanced fibre optic components, tuneable devices for high-capacity optical networks, and fibre sensors. The photonic technology laboratory is a well-equipped laboratory. Its infrastructure includes 40 Gb/s electrical and lightwave test & measurement equipment, a state-of-the-art C-band DWDM testbed, and a 10 Gb/s, programmable GMPLS testbed. We are also working on fibre sensors and tuneable devices for either biomedical or telecom applications.

Prisma Electronics SA is a high-tech company focused on three activities: electronic manufacturing services, R&D, and ICT. QRBIT develops hardware photonic systems and sub-systems for integration over optical ground station infrastructure, to assist in the future of satellite-based optical and quantum communications. Additionally, QRBIT provides software solutions for optical classical and quantum satellite communications, regarding scheduling and optimization on satellite optical communications based on the prediction and modelling of the atmospheric channel, aiming to increase the links availability and performance.

Raymetrics designs and manufactures laser-based remote sensing instruments (aerosol lidars) for atmospheric analysis. Through a growing network of partnerships, Raymetrics has sold products globally, including in the USA, India, South America, Europe, Southeast Asia, and China. Clients have historically been research institutes interested in studying everything from clouds to aerosols to dust. Clients have increasingly come from operational and commercial sectors as lidar becomes better known as a solution beyond scientific research. New commercial and operational applications are arising for the technology, such as volcanic ash detection (for aviation authorities and meteorological agencies), remote visibility measurement (for airports and others), and remote pollution monitoring (mines, heavy industry, environmental agencies). Raymetrics has sold operational systems to clients including the Met Office (UK), Deutsche Wetterdienst (DWD—German Weather Service), the National Environment Agency (Singapore), Baku International Airport (Azerbaijan), and many others. Raymetrics finds itself at the forefront of this new wave of technology, with a significant competitive advantage over the competition due to having spent the last decades developing the technology for a niche market.

REDAR specialises in the development of advanced optical sensors designed to monitor greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions with precision and efficiency. Its sensors are not only highly portable and scalable but also versatile, capable of working alongside satellite measurements for calibration or operating independently for localised, targeted monitoring. This makes them an invaluable tool for local authorities and industries striving to monitor, control, and reduce GHG emissions effectively. The Remote Sensing Laboratory (RSLab) of the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) was established in 1987 and has significant expertise in EO and remote sensing, big data, open data, data analytics, environmental monitoring, computer vision, machine learning, deep learning, and pattern recognition, hyperspectral, multispectral, thermal, radar, LIDAR, and UAV data analysis. Involved in several EU and national research projects, NTUA has significant experience in designing, developing, and validating cutting-edge technology and innovative frameworks for a vast variety of engineering, environmental, agricultural, cultural heritage, security, and robotics applications. Over the last ten years, members of the RSLab team have published over 100 publications in scientific journals, books, and book chapters and over 300 presentations at top-rank international conferences. The RSLab consists of 37 scientists, i.e., 3 professors, 6 senior researchers/postdocs, 13 PhD students, and 17 M.Sc. students. The RSLab, a member of EARSeL, offers and manages several bachelor’s and master’s courses in EO, Geomatics, and Geospatial Data Science, while it actively supports students and researchers’ mobility (e.g., Erasmus+). Furthermore, the RSLab coordinates and participates as a scientific/technical manager in several EU and national research projects in space, ICT, environment, and agriculture, including EU H2020, EEA, MED, and the National Research Excellence Programme.
