EMTECH is engaged in research, development, and commercialization of innovative space technology solutions and applications, with a vision of international recognition. Our team is committed to success-fully delivering products and services in the space market, having as principal domains of interest space-craft simulators, independent SW verification and validation (ISVV), ground segment applications, space-craft magnetic measurement and modelling facilities, and electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) services. Since 2008, EMTECH has participated in several European space missions.

The remote sensing group of the Department of Geography of Harokopio University of Athens (HUA) is named HUA Earth Observation Team and is not established as an official laboratory. The HUA Earth Observation Team is composed of geologists, geographers, and engineers. The main objective of research interest constitutes the use of space Earth Observation systems (more, specifically, SAR interferometry and very high spatial resolution remote sensing data for natural risks and disaster assessment, mitigation, and monitoring). The corresponding laboratory of geoinformatics is equipped with multiple high-performance workstations for extensive processing requirements.

The Section of Environmental Physics and Meteorology of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA) is dynamically involved in the sector of space, as far as EO is concerned. It runs state of the art research in EO and has completed several projects based on the use of EO methodologies and data in sectors such as: urban environment, climate change, air and marine pollution, extreme weather events, nature management. Recently it has expanded its activities through the exploitation of EO data for climate change adaptation and mitigation plans, the integration of nature-based solutions in the urban environment and the development of smart tools for cities. In view of accomplishing its goals, the Section uses EO data from passive and active satellite sensors of varying spectral, spatial, and temporal resolutions depending on the application area. Its staff have the needed skills, tools and experience to handle all the different scientific and technical aspects of EO-related development projects. The Section collaborates on a constant basis with the European Environment Agency and has been an active member since 2005 of the ESA – China Dragon program. Furthermore, it is member of the ESA Copernicus Relay and Copernicus Academy networks.

ESA BIC Greece (European Space Agency Business Incubation Centre Greece) is the Business Incubator of ESA in Greece. The incubator’s primary goal is to strengthen the Greek space ecosystem with the intro-duction of five new successful space-related startups every year. The incubated startups either exploit space technology in non-space mar-kets (spin-off) or become suppliers to the space sector (spin-in). ESA BIC Greece is part of the largest space innovation network in the world. It offers a comprehensive support package with business coaching, technical expertise, networking, access to funding, and legal advice perks to support startups in accelerating their business and technology development. ESA BIC Greece is not only essential for supporting entrepreneurs and startups from the development of a business idea to full commercialisation, but also underpins the creation, growth, and strengthening of the space cluster in Greece. The incubator contributes to the national innovation and space strategies, encourages further uptake of space-based services, supports the transfer of technologies from or to the space sec-tor, and creates jobs and economic growth. ESA BIC Greece is operated by Corallia, a unit of Research Centre Athena, with the support of the Greek Ministry of Digital Governance and more than 70 other organisations that have identified the creation of ESA BIC Greece as a key element in the development plan of the Greek Space Industry.

The Embedded Systems Lab is specialised in the design of reliable embedded systems, and, in particular, in the development of HW- and SW-based methodologies for the validation, testing, and fault-tolerance of embedded systems with an emphasis on embedded processors and Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGAs). Relevant research interests of the team are FDIR methodologies for critical (space) applications (Radiation effects analysis in FPGAs, SoCs, and CPUs; SEE characterisation with fault injection and radiation experiments; SEE mitigation approaches); Microprocessor reliability (Functional testing of embedded processors and SoCs; Fault-tolerant processors for mission-critical applications); HW security for embedded systems, FPGAs, and ICs (EDA tools for HW Security; Side Channel Analysis & Fault Injection attacks). The activities of the lab include R&D projects; consulting to industry on modelling, design, validation, and testing of embedded systems for critical applications; publications in top conferences and major transactions/journals; participation in organising and technical program committees of international design and test technology conferences; master courses for the design, modelling, validation, and testing of embedded systems; PhD research in embedded systems technology topics; and graduate and undergraduate theses on subjects related to the design and testing of embedded systems.

FEAC Engineering P.C. is an engineering & consulting company, highly specialised in Simulation Driven Product Development & physics-based Digital Twins. FEAC operates in the global market by develop-ing and providing specialised simulation SW and consulting services to solve challenging and complex engineering problems in the fields of Aerospace/ Aeronautics, Maritime, Oil & Gas, Bioengineering, Con-struction, and more. FEAC’s worldwide awarded services range from CAD drafting, advanced multi-physics Finite Element Analysis, Boundary Element Analysis, and Computational Fluid Dynamics, to Structural Health Monitoring, and design optimization techniques. There is extensive experience in project manage-ment & certification of products (CE marking) as well. FEAC combines 1D simulation (aka system simula-tion) with detailed 3D simulation techniques (CFD, FEM, BEM) to build up a comprehensive Digital Twin of the process or object/assembly, not only in the phase of the development, but also in the phase of realiza-tion (manufacturing process) and operation (under operational conditions). This allows FEAC to create a Holistic Digital Twin throughout the product’s lifecycle. FEAC’s expertise is to develop multi-physics, high-fidelity simulations that couple structural mechanics, heat transfer, fluid flow, electromagnetics, acoustics, etc., and represent the mechanical behaviour of components under complex environmental conditions. Siemens Digital Industries Software has appointed FEAC Engineering as the exclusive authorized partner of its CAE portfolio in Greece, Cyprus, and Malta. FEAC develops PITHIA-CP, a world-leading Boundary Element Solver for Cathodic Protection Digital Twins, which is used by SIEMENS as an add-on on its Simcenter 3D software portfolio.

The Laboratory of Forest Management and Remote Sensing (FMRS) of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTh) carries out research and educational activities in the fields of Forest Management and Remote Sensing. FMRS specialises in geospatial and EO applications in the broader fields of environmental monitoring and management of natural ecosystems, with particular emphasis on forestry and agroforestry. One of the main objectives of FMRS is the development of advanced methodologies and pre-operational/operational processing chains. FMRS R&D activities include the development of innovative methodologies and specialised EO Data analysis algorithms for forest fuel type mapping, automated burnt area mapping, biomass estimation, and vegetation, and biodiversity mapping. The unit has been participating in a large number of research projects funded by both the EU and the Greek state. The FMRS, in collaboration with the Hellenic Forest Service, has established two National Observatories that offer advanced services and products in the fields of forest and forest fire management. The FMRS has undertaken, as the prime contractor, the implementation of the Forest Monitoring Service which is part of the Greek National Satellite Space Project.

The General Secretariat of Telecommunications and Post of the Ministry of Digital Governance and Artificial Intelligence plays a central role in Greece’s space activities, coordinating national space policy and programmes, including the National Microsatellite Programme, government satellite infrastructure, secure satellite communications and Greece’s representation in European and international space-related bodies. Through its strategic and supervisory role, the General Secretariat supports the development of national capabilities in Earth Observation, satellite communications, space data services and downstream applications, while helping connect public-sector needs with the capabilities of Greek industry, research organisations and innovation actors. Its work contributes to strengthening Greece’s technological autonomy, resilience and international visibility in the space domain.

Hellenic Aerospace Industry (HAI) has as its major mission to deliver services and products to the Armed Forces of the Hellenic State. By implementing an extrovert strategy, HAI has achieved expanding its cus-tomer base and establishing itself as a reliable partner of the leading aerospace industries. Operating with state-of-the-art production processes and highly qualified personnel, HAI offers high-performance prod-ucts and quality services. HAI’s vision is to be a technologically advanced manufacturer, and to pursue cooperation and coordination with the leading aeronautical and defence industry of Europe and maintain a dominant place in the major area of the eastern Mediterranean. The Hellenic Association of Space Industry (HASI) was founded in 2008 following a joint endeavour on behalf of the main part of the Hellenic Industry active in the space technology and space applications sector. The association includes more than 55 active members. All HASI members are high-tech companies, employing over 2500 employees, of which the vast majority constitute highly educated personnel in space technology and its applications. HASI members currently accumulate Greece’s research and manufacturing personnel in the space technology and applications sector. Almost all HASI members have been participating successfully in ESA programs, either through the ESA-Greek Task Force Call for Ideas or independently through ESA open ITT tenders, and thus have been ac-cumulating significant know-how and expertise with regards to developing and managing space-related programs, technologies, and applications. Additional experience and know-how have been developed through the participation of the Greek Space Industry in different EC Framework Space Technology Programs. HASI, in collaboration with Corallia since 2009, has launched the Hellenic Space Technologies and Applications Cluster (si-Cluster) to under-pin the national space strategy. HASI undertakes the development of communication and collaboration channels between the Association members, as well as with similar ac-tors within the European and the International space marketplace. HASI also strives to achieve the optimization of the Greek participation in ESA, the National contribution to EUMETSAT, the participation to the Hellenic MoD’s programs involving space-related technologies and ap-plications, as well as any potential for industrial cooperation opportunities resulting from the aforementioned participations.

Hellas Sat is a satellite operator providing a range of satellite communication and connectivity solutions. The Hellenic Space Center (HSC) is Greece’s national space organisation, operating under the Ministry of Digital Governance & Artificial Intelligence and responsible for supporting the development and implementation of the country’s space policy, programmes and capabilities. HTR is one of the very few Greek companies specialising in robotics and automation, focusing on out-of-factory robotics. Since its foundation, HTR has solid in-house knowhow on many topics related to ro-botics. The Interbalkan Environment Centre (i-BEC) as an international cluster of new technologies and innovation linking together the public and private sectors for sustainable management of natural resources and protection of the environment. i-BEC acts through a global network in cooperation with governmental organisations, research institutes, and the private sector. Within this network, i-BEC provides integrated, relia-ble solutions and services and is actively involved in transnational ex-change and application of knowledge and best management practices overseas, in Europe and the Balkans. i-BEC turns EO and space data into services, thanks to ground-based instruments, satellite imagery, teleme-try, in-situ measurements, lab analyses, UAVs, URVs, and remote sens-ing. i-BEC’s undertakes the integration and management of environ-mental data in a shared infrastructure, scaling applications both geo-graphically and thematically, and meeting the requirements of locally focused needs of the public and private sectors (formation of clusters) that adhere to international standards (GEO). i-BEC provides EO data and services in areas such as management of raw data concerning pol-lution control from human activities and environmental protection of coastal and rural areas, early warning systems for critical incidents and dangerous phenomena, and early warning and decision support sys-tems for water supply and irrigation management practices, as well as site-specific farm management for precision agriculture. i-BEC provides high accuracy maps of soil properties, AI algorithms for soil properties estimation, and integrated sensing. The Institute of Astrophysics (IA) at FORTH began its journey in 2019 and is the only research institute in Greece devoted exclusively to Astrophysics. It builds on nearly three decades of highly successful research activity by the astrophysics group within the Institute of Electronic Structure and Laser (IESL) of Department of Physics of the University of Crete. Its goal is to understand the cosmos, and to have tremendous fun while doing so. Its work focuses on some of the most persistent open questions of theoretical and observational astrophysics, and in the process it trains the next generation of scientists and engineers for careers in astrophysics and beyond. The institute works within the strongly multidisciplinary environment of FORTH, building strategic international partnerships and acting as a home or meeting point for outstanding researchers from around the world. It gives back through outreach, education, innovation, and joint and mutually beneficial projects with the local authorities and the private sector.
